In April 2012, the Central Water Commission with loan assistance from the World Bank, embarked on the six year Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) at an estimated cost of ₹2,100 crores for assisting the dam owning agencies in rehabilitating select dams. There are currently nine agencies participating in the project from seven states, namely Madhya Pradesh (MPWRD), Orissa (OWRD), Tamil Nadu (TNWRD and TANGEDCO), Kerala (KWRD and KSEB), Karnataka (KAWRD), Uttarakhand (UJVNL) and Jharkhand (DVC).

Most of the 250 dams identified for rehabilitation under DRIP are composite dams (Masonry or Concrete Gravity plus Earthen Embankment); and majority of them are more than 25 years old. The implementation of DHARMA is currently being focussed on these dams for which a complete list, along with further information about DRIP can be found here: damsafety.in.
